Kearns Improvement District 2024 Water Conservation Art Contest

Rules and Guidelines

 

Theme:            The art contest will revolve around the theme of “Water Conservation”. See www.KIDWater4UT.gov/Conservation Media for more information about “Water Conservation” efforts and ideas.

 

Participants are encouraged to create artwork that promotes awareness about the importance of water conservation in the KID service area, highlights water-saving practices, or portrays the beauty of water resources.

 

Eligibility:       The art contest is open to individuals of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels. Each contestant must reside within the service boundaries of the Kearns Improvement District.

 

Medium:          Participants can choose any medium for their artwork, including but not limited to painting, drawing, sculpture, digital art, photography, mixed media, and collage.

 

Originality:      Artwork submitted must be original. Plagiarism or copyright infringement will result in disqualification.

 

Submission:    

i.            Participants should submit a high-resolution photograph or scan of their artwork in digital format.
If the artwork is three-dimensional or requires physical presence, participants should provide clear photographs from multiple angles.
If photography artwork is submitted, a description of how the photograph was captured is required.

ii.            The participant must share in 50 words or less on how the artwork depicts “Water Conservation”.

iii.            Submissions shall be sent to KIDContest@KIDWater4UT.gov by the submission deadline.

 

Artwork Specifications: The submitted artwork should be visually appealing, impactful, and easy to understand. It should effectively convey the message of “Water Conservation”.

 

Size and Format: There are no specific size requirements for the artwork, but participants are advised to ensure the clarity and visibility of their work when displayed digitally. Digital artwork should be submitted in common image formats (JPEG, PNG, or TIFF) with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi.

 

Submission Deadline: The deadline for the artwork submission will be May 6, 2024. Late submissions will not be considered.

 

Judging Criteria: The artwork will be judged based on creativity, originality, adherence to the theme, technical skill, and overall impact.

 

Judging Panel: The judging panel will consist of the three-member board of Trustees of the District. The board members will bring their expertise and knowledge of water conservation to evaluate the artwork based on the provided criteria. Their decision will be final and cannot be challenged.

 

Prizes:              Prizes will be awarded for each of the following four groups:

1.       Adult Category (18 years of age and older)

·         First Place:         $250

·         Second Place     $150

·         Third Place        $100

·         Fourth Place      $ 50

 

2.       High School

·         First Place:         $250

·         Second Place     $150

·         Third Place        $100

·         Fourth Place      $ 50

 

3.       Junior High School

·         First Place:         $200

·         Second Place     $150

·         Third Place        $100

·         Fourth Place      $ 50

 

4.       Elementary

·         First Place:         $100

·         Second Place     $ 75

·         Third Place        $ 50

·         Fourth Place      $ 25

 

Please note that the prize amounts are subject to change based on the discretion of the Kearns Improvement District.

 

The winners of the art contest will be announced on May 15, 2024. The event will provide an opportunity for the community to come together, celebrate creativity, and promote water conservation. The winners’ names and their respective prize-winning artwork will be prominently displayed for public viewing on the District’s website, social media sites, and other sites for promoting “Water Conservation”, and other sites as deemed appropriate. The winning entries will be prominently used in the 2024 KID Conservation Effort. Residency within the District’s boundaries will be confirmed, and arrangements will be made to award the winners their cash prizes.

 

Ownership and Usage Rights: Participants will retain ownership and copyright of their artwork. However, by participating in the contest, participants grant the organizers non-exclusive rights to use, reproduce, and display the submitted artwork for promotional and educational purposes related to water conservation, along with photos of the winners receiving the awards, crediting the artist whenever possible.

 

Code of Conduct:         Participants are expected to demonstrate respectful and professional behavior throughout the contest. Any form of harassment, discrimination, or inappropriate content will result in immediate disqualification.

 

Compliance with Laws:           Participants are responsible for ensuring their artwork does not violate any applicable laws or regulation, including copyright, trademark, or intellectual property rights.

 

Disqualification:          The Kearns Improvement District reserves the right to disqualify participants who fail to comply with the rule or engage in any form of misconduct.
